hair dryer

here’s a good read if you want to learn more about how to choose the right turbo charger. one of the local neon guys was involved with its writing.

i picked up my lumpy cam today. next up will be the cam gear. hopefully i can put it in during the first few weeks of july.

the motor has 50k miles on it. i’d like to do the valve springs at the same time – it’d just make sense. however, i don’t want to pull the head off. greg tells me it’s possible and he’s got the tools to do it. however, if we lose a valve, the head’s gotta come off.

so, i’ll be buying some valve springs and a head gasket too, just in case.

i considered getting a creative zen 20gb mp3 player to replace the 5gb zen micro if i outgrow the space. however, i saw this picture and realized that, maybe, it’s too damn big. 🙂

li-ion batteries

wondering how to care for lithium ion batteries, i found this:
Simple Guidelines

  • Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a laptop is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.
  • Batteries with fuel gauge (laptops) should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.
  • Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.
  • Consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power. (Some laptop manufacturers are concerned about dust and moisture accumulating inside the battery casing.)
  • Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing date. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.
  • If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.

pretty different considering what we’ve been taught about ni-cad or ni-mh batteries..

when someone asks me to check out their webpage, or some picture, or the like, my standard response is, needs more porn. a quick lookup determined it was untaken.

my wedding gift to amanda was an orange creative 5gb zen micro with the wired remote and a line-in adapter for her jetta. something so she can take all her tunes with her wherever she goes, record classroom lectures and listen to them in the car (yeah, she wanted to do that..) and it’s small. amanda sized. it’s no larger than her cell phone.

i was going to take my laptop with me to mexico; to watch movies and mostly for listening to music. either on the plane or in the hotel room. however, i thought that insane the more i thought about it.

neither of us are fans of ipods. before we left, i picked up a creative zen touch, but i ended up being totally disgusted with it. rather large in size (xbox huge!,) couldn’t charge it from the USB port, menus weren’t intuitive, no flash-drive abilities, no fm, recording…definately older technology… so i took it back 12 hrs later. 😀

i returned it for a black 5gb zen micro… i didn’t need the wired remote and i already have a line-in adapter in my car. i’m not sure 5gb will be enough space for me, as i’m a music whore. although creative has another product called the ‘zen,’ which is a 20gb version of the micro but it hasn’t hit the US soil yet. if i outgrow 5gb, i’ll trade up to a 20gb. 🙂

i really like it. i’ll post a ‘review’ later.

a lot goings on

i wanna start off by saying thanks to everyone in my life for being supportive of everything i’ve got going on.

yeah, most of you know i’m married now. three months of busy hell are all officially over, signified by me removing the countdown (now negative-days away) from my webpage.

the only tourist thing amanda and i did (among others) was the tulum ruins. otherwise it was time well spent relaxing by the water, honeymooning, or visiting with our family and friends.

wedding was in mexico. no beach wedding as we wanted, but it was close enough. pat did an awesome job with the ceremony. everyone appeared happy about how the events played out. most people enjoyed the resort thouroughly.

the wedding reception went off without a hitch. those that made it had a great time. i’m gonna assume those who didn’t are envious. chuck was our larger-than-life MC.

our grand total for the wedding ceremony, trip, reception, chocolate fountain, photographer, tips, license, destination fees, etc. was around $9,000. not bad, considering we didn’t have to arrange too much. the coordinators took care of everything. we could have done it for much less, but our involvement would have been much higher.

i have an associates degree in Applied Science Computer Information Systems – Computer Technology Specialist from Oakland Community College now. 1-2 more classes and i could get a “certificate” from the college. i want to take a photography class this summer also.

i didn’t get that job; which is fine. i don’t think i would have liked it anyway. now that all this is over, i can look again i guess. my current assignment is finally allowing contractor billrate increases at anniversary time (November for me,) so things could be turning for the better here.

i might bail on this whole Computer Science thing. I’ve got until the fall to decide. if i do, it’ll be an EE.

to do, in no particular order:

  1. find a new job
  2. get some certifications under my belt
  3. find a house we can afford

And he stood on the mountaintop, and let the world know.

Rob’s famous!

Isn’t it nice to know that your friends remember you?

(The event mentioned was the wedding reception this past Sunday.)
