i put the list here because the site where it originally came from has advertisements badly. here’s the original thread.
- install alarm that monitors doors, trunk, and possibly hood. shock sensor. Starter disable. alarm indicator should be visible from a distance on both sides. siren and parking light flashes should work properly. paging system if you can afford it. radar/proximity sensors are a good idea too.
- lock doors, close windows, and close sunroof
- remove faceplates, radios, etc. hide personal gear or put it in the trunk
- install gear with oddball screw-types like hex or torx
- install gear in a factory-looking locations to deter attention.
- no ‘steal me’ equipment manufacturer stickers to draw extra attention to your car
- do not blast music at least within 1 mile of your home or destination
- park in a lighted area if possible in public areas
- park your car near a window that you can leave a light on, along with a TV or radio
- IF SOMEONE IS BREAKING INTO YOUR CAR, CALL THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT TRY TO PREVENT THE THEFT BECAUSE YOU DON’T KNOW IF THE THEIVES ARE ARMED!!!!
- take pictures of your gear, installed where it is in your car
- get an additional insurance rider for the value of your equipment
- if you think you’re being followed home, drive to the police station
- ARM YOUR ALARM!!!
- don’t install your gear in public
- write down your serial numbers and keep your reciepts
- alarm battery backup system
