linux chrono
i started with redhat 5.2 back in 1998, almost 10 years ago. then slackware 7 taught me about the nuances of compiling software in 2000. redhat 8/9 came along and showed me how cool packaged software was. debian woody showed me how awesome it is to automatically resolve dependencies in packages in a stable but dated environment.
i made the switch to ubuntu today, taking the best (worst?) of debian’s package management and bringing current software packages to the server/desktop.
growing pains? not as bad as i thought. i got an extra box set up in about three hours, ready to slide into place after last night’s screw-ups. this included samba, mysql, apache, php4, php5, cacti, APC UPS software, cron jobs, and shell scripts.
