Dinner w/ the Kauls

2006.08.09

My coworker Sunita asked me to take pictures of her husband, children, and herself this weekend. Amanda had a chance to try on two Indian outfits and I got to take pictures of her in one. sometime soon will be another shoot w/ the more traditional ‘saree’ gowns the women wear.

(blog image sizes are messed up, *cough*some people*cough* complained about them being too wide. click the images to see the “album”)

the 50mm f1.4 is a lot of fun. this shoot made me realize i could really benefit from a speedlight. i could also benefit from attention to detail. in the future, i will check for things like wiley hair and wayward necklaces.

last weekend was spent at the “long family reunion” in west-memphis (marion) arkansas. they’re a nice bunch of people. incredibly hospitible. they know a thing or three about bbq.

amanda, chris, sarah, and i did tourist stuff in memphis. we made our way over to dyess to see what all the fuss was about.

graceland was an obligitory stop, now i can say i went in spite of hating elvis.

i was a japanese tourist, here are the pictures i took. (shot 1500 pictures, kept about 350, really happy with a few dozen)

updates – may day

2006.05.01

amanda’s car has been hit, undriveable for three weeks, in the body shop for two. hopefully we can get it back soon. we’ve been car jockeying and sharing; family members have been gracious enough to loan us their cars.

Our optional final exam for RHT-160 was attend Build-A-Bear. We were to make a bear for donation for students in alcott elementary in pontiac. inspired by mike, i made an inside-out bear, a first for this store’s employees. with its beadie plastic-rivet inside-out eyes and doctors mask to cover its no-muzzle/mouth thing, it’s a bit creepy. oh yeah, it’s got two hearts.

I named him Flip.

beng the slacker that i am, i missed signups for spring semester @ OU. classes i’d be willing to take in the spring were full. i’ll have to wait until summer registration opens. in the mean time, i’m taking an introduction to digital photography class at OCC.

i picked up a nikon d50 w/ a 28-80mm lens saturday and have been shooting oodles of pictures (300 in 2 days) with it. amanda has too. it focuses incredibly fast and activates the shutter just as quickly.

here’s amanda’s first picture with it:
lurker

nate bought a house and moved in this weekend. here he is in front of it. the rest of the pictures from saturday can be found here:

five days in tennessee and arkansas are coming up quickly, just over a month away. i can’t wait. 🙂

there’s more, i swear.

A: The impossible dream.

on that note, amanda and i are headed to West Memphis Arkansas (2)for a family reunion in June. her family’s from the dyess area (2), where amanda’s grandmother went to school with johnny cash‘s older brother jack among other things.

work travel. yay. left yesterday at 8pm. 600mi round trip to our indiana transmission complex in lovely kokomo indiana. win2k/NDS->xp/AD training is on the itinerary. two nights in a courtyard marriott.
amanda came with me, hoping she could visit an old friend while she’s closer to them. proving unlikely so far, we’ll see for sure though.
