i went with greg to a “Studio 317 Group Shoot” in pontiac last sunday. i learned some things, mostly what not to do. i did a couple things right and sat through a workshop with a local photographer about portait photography.

click the image to look at the rest of my shots from the day. images ending with -1, -2, etc are processed. i left the “from-the-camera” images there for comparison (for now) 😈

i created a new “linked album” of my favorite pictures i’ve taken recently.

the folks at TMBO pointed me to a blog/website mostly about lighting in regards to photography. it includes some things about composition and cheap hardware for off-camera flash work and the composition related to it.

last weekend was spent at the “long family reunion” in west-memphis (marion) arkansas. they’re a nice bunch of people. incredibly hospitible. they know a thing or three about bbq.

amanda, chris, sarah, and i did tourist stuff in memphis. we made our way over to dyess to see what all the fuss was about.

graceland was an obligitory stop, now i can say i went in spite of hating elvis.

i was a japanese tourist, here are the pictures i took. (shot 1500 pictures, kept about 350, really happy with a few dozen)

i’ve been taking TONS of pictures w/ the new camera, almost 3000 in 3 weeks. they start on page 2 of the “shooting around” photo album.

most of the shots have been with a completely-manual 50mm f1.8 portrait lens w/ a UV filter. rest have been shot with the 28-80mm f3.3-5.6 nikon kit lens.

greg was gracious to loan me a 50mm f1.8 manual focus lens for a bit. i used it today for taking mothers’ day pictures.
what an incredible lens!
