cable modem’s been up & down a lot over the last few weeks. it’d lose sync every hour or so, annoyingly stopping file transfers. fed up, i called my ISP.

they took a look at my modem and stated that its signal was borderline bad. their suggestion was to bend the pins at each end of the coax cable. if that didn’t fix it, they’d send out a tech in a truck to diagnose the issue.

i bent the pin. signal/noise ratio went up 10db. yay!

service has been great and i can resolve most problems myself. it’s rare that i have to call my ISP to get a problem fixed. when i do call, it’s usually something major that requires a lot of work on their end.. or a tech to come out. i like that it was a simple fix this time and that the first-level tech was able to give me the solution. /me is surprised.
